Chief Scientific Officer

Dmitri Dozortsev, PhD, MD, HCLD, EMB

Dr. Dmitri Dozortsev is a translational fertility expert and Chief Scientific Officer of Repronova LLC, with over 30 years of experience bridging basic science and clinical practice. He is credited with significant breakthroughs, including the discovery of the fertilization mechanism during ICSI.

Between 2020 and 2024, Dr. Dozortsev co-authored groundbreaking articles that corrected a 90-year misconception in the ovulation paradigm, reshaping the understanding of ovulation and implantation. Combining academic and clinical insights, he developed strategies to improve egg quality and address unexplained recurrent implantation failure. These advancements led to successful deliveries in patients who had previously failed IVF due to poor egg quality or implantation problems, and were presented at scientific conferences and published in fertility journals.

His expertise has attracted global inquiries from physicians and patients facing challenging fertility cases. To manage the complexity of these cases, Dr. Dozortsev founded Repronova, an online consulting platform that enables him to assist physicians worldwide. By limiting himself to two or three cases at a time, he ensures highly personalized guidance for the most difficult fertility challenges.

Dr. Dozortsev's Education and Training

While attending Pavlov Medical School in his hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia, Dr. Dmitri Dozortsev developed a strong interest in embryonic cell differentiation and decided to pursue a career in science. After graduating as a physician-surgeon (MD) in 1988—without practicing medicine for a single day—he joined the Department of Mammalian Embryology at the Pavlov Institute of Experimental Medicine as a research fellow.

In 1991, Dr. Dozortsev moved to the United States and continued his training in experimental embryology at the Reproductive Genetics Institute (RGI) in Chicago. There, under the leadership of preimplantation genetics pioneer Dr. Verlinsky, he had the privilege of working directly with Dr. Dyban, a notable expert in early mammalian embryonic development. At RGI, Dr. Dozortsev collaborated closely with the Belgian physician Dr. Petra De Sutter. In 1993, he enrolled in a Ph.D. program within the Department of OB-GYN at the University of Ghent in Belgium, under the supervision of the renowned reproductive medicine authority Dr. Marc Dhont.

In 1995—after seven years and training across three different countries—Dr. Dozortsev graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Doctor of Biomedicine (PhD), defending a thesis that revealed the mechanism of ICSI. Following his graduation, Dr. Michael Diamond recruited him to join the Department of OBGYN at Wayne State University in Detroit as faculty. There, Dr. Dozortsev met Dr. Michael Allon, who later founded a private IVF clinic in Houston and invited Dr. Dozortsev to serve as director of reproductive laboratories.

Currently, Dr. Dozortsev serves as the Scientific Director at the Advanced Fertility Center of Texas, Director of Omni-Med Laboratories, and President of the American College of Embryology. He holds certification as a High Complexity Laboratory Director from the American Board of Bioanalysis and as a Reproductive Embryologist (EMB) from the American College of Embryology.
